Skincare Extras: Acne, Melasma, and Dryness Solutions
As part of our continued series about the Maui Medspa CARES skincare routine, a simplified 5 step skincare routine designed by medical skincare experts, we discuss additions that you may be missing out on in your skincare routine. These “Extras” are specific as your skin needs are unique to you. It's time to delve deeper into the realm of skincare extras, tailoring your routine to address specific concerns and enhance skin vitality.
Addressing Your Unique Skin Needs
While the fundamentals are universal, extras in your skincare routine are highly personalized, curated to address individual skin issues and concerns, whether that be acne, melasma (discoloration), or dryness, each has its specialized solutions.
ACNE
Acne is a pervasive skin issue, plaguing millions and warranting a spot in the extras of our skincare regime. Integrating acne treatments into your skincare routine, especially if you are among the numerous adults combatting this persistent issue, requires discernment.
Additions and Adjustments: Introducing topical treatments like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, or potentially prescription medications such as antibiotics or Tretinoin, can enhance acne management. Keep in mind, Tretinoin would substitute for Retinol.
Targeted Solutions for Variations: Acne manifests in different forms, including comedonal, papular, pustular, and cystic. Addressing each requires a specialized approach, hence consultation with skincare professionals is crucial to eliminate guesswork and optimize treatment outcomes.
MELASMA (DISCOLORATION)
Melasma or skin discoloration emerges due to varied reasons, creating patches of darker skin that can either be temporary or prolonged. Strategizing melasma treatment encompasses a dual-focus: diminishing the pigment production from melanocytes and facilitating the exfoliation of the surface-level pigment.
Objective: The prime aim is dual: diminish the melanocytes' pigment production and facilitate the removal of existing surface pigment.
Proven Topicals: Hydroquinone 4%, a renowned medication, is effective against various melasma types, particularly those induced by pregnancy or inflammation. Incorporating a melanocyte inhibitor can be invaluable for managing discoloration.
DRYNESS
The struggle against dry and dull skin is continuous for some, attributed to genetics, environment, or a combination of both.
Essential Addition: Regardless of the cause, incorporating a moisturizer is indispensable. It’s pivotal to explore different formulations to discover the one that aligns with your skin needs.
Recommended Brands: Consider starting with renowned brands like Eucerin, Cerave, and Vani-Cream, known for their efficacy and minimal irritants, catering to sensitive skin.
