What is the Vampire Facial?
A Vampire Facial is a combination of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma/fibrin (PRP/F) to stimulate your bodies own collagen and growth factors. The Vampire Facial is the most advanced step in Collagen Rejuvenation Therapy.
Let’s look at the progression of collagen rejuvenation therapy:
Microneedling: is a treatment that involves the use of quickly pulsating tiny needles that produce micro-traumas to the skin, which stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. This is a common first step in someones skin rejuvenation journey.
Microneedling with PRP (Vampire Facial): is the next step up which includes the addition of PRP or PRF applied to the surface of the skin during the microneedling treatment. PRP has a large concentration of growth factors, primarily found within the platelets, helping tissue to heal and repair, treating all types of skin issues. PRF is the same as PRP, however it is spun in a way that more fibrin and platelets are retained, up to 2X the amount in PRP.
Microneedling with PRP + Injection of PRF (Vampire Face Lift) : The Vampire Facial is the most advance procedure and requires experience and expertise to perform. After performing the micronedling with PRP your provider will inject PRFT under the skin in multiple key areas. This pattern is designed to stimulate collagen in areas where volume is lost with time, giving you an age defying look.
What are platelets and why do they help with healing?
Platelets are one component of your blood, and they are the primary means by which your body stops bleeding and forming clots. If you get a cut, soon your body will create a blood clot at that location, which in part is filled with platelets. Each of these platelets contains a large number of growth factors, which are signals to start the process of healing and growth. In the Vampire Facial, we concentrate the platelets and infuse them directly into your skin!
How do you get PRP and PRF?
PRP/F is made of your own plasma and platelets. Your provider will draw a small vial of your blood and place this in a machine called a centrifuge, which is used to separate the plasma and platelets from red blood cells.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF?
Great question! Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is made by collecting your blood and spinning this at very high speeds. The centrifugal force on the blood pushes the heavy components, such as red blood cells and white blood cells, to the bottom and leaving lighter components such as plasma and platelets on the top. Since we are heavily interested in platelets, this is useful as it has 3-4X the number of platelets typically found in your body.
Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is similarly made by collecting your blood and spinning it. However, in this case, the blood is spun at lower speeds. This means the centrifugal force is lower, and not as many components of the blood are pushed down and separated from the plasma. Fibrin is one of these components. Since it is medium weight, when spun very fast it is pushed to the bottom, but when at slow speeds, it remains in the plasma. Also, not as many platelets are lost to the bottom when spinning at slow speeds, making the platelet concentration 10X that typically found in your body.
We prefer using PRF because it has a much higher concentration of platelets, and thus growth factors. Additionally, the fibrin adds a scaffolding to slowly release the platelets and provide structure for the desired growth factor triggering.
You might be wondering, “Then why doesn’t everyone use PRF?”
Another good question! This is because PRF retains some of the white and red blood cells, and other components of the blood. When these are used, a stronger inflammatory reaction is created, which in certain cases is not desired.
What should I expect during my Vampire Facial?
After your initial check in and consultation, and you are comfortable in the room;
A small amount of blood is drawn
That blood is placed in a centrifuge, where it spins so that the platelets are separated from the red blood cells and white blood cells
The face is topically numbed with an anesthetic cream to help you feel comfortable during treatment. The anesthetic cream we use is the strongest possible from a compounding pharmacy, and most of our clients report zero to mild discomfort
Using a microneedling pen, tiny channels are made in the skin in order to create micro traumas and activate collagen production
PRP/F is applied across the face during the process in order to infuse into the micro channels
You will experience some redness and swelling for 2-3 days following and should be sure to wear broad spectrum SPF 30+ (and avoid bright sun if possible)
You will begin seeing improvements shortly after the procedure, and results continue to improve over several months.
For full results are realized after 3-6 months and can last up to 1-2 years.
What are the benefits?
There are many benefits to the Vampire Facial, including boosting the turnover of skin cells, production of collagen and improving skin tone and texture. Microneedling with PRP will also reduce fine lines and signs of aging. This treatment can be especially helpful for those who suffered from acne and have visible acne scars or skin damage from prolonged exposure to the sun. Some other benefits are:
Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
Combating volume loss with increased collagen and elastin production
Improving dark circles under the eyes
Minimizing acne scarring
General rejuvenation for more youthful skin
Reduces acne scars
Evens skin tone
Reduces the appearance of large pores
Gives the skin a fresh glow
Gives the skin a firmer and smoother texture
Helps lighten sun spots
Reduces broken capillaries and spider veins
Is a Vampire Facelift safe?
Vampire Facials are very safe, as this is using your own plasma and platelets! This procedure, as many other cosmetic procedures, requires sterilized equipment in a clean environment. Unsterilized equipment increases the risk of infection so make sure to do thorough research before choosing your provider.
With that being said, Vampire Facials are a non-invasive procedure that can safely be performed by a licensed medical professional with the correct equipment and certifications.
How long until I see results?
The time until you see your full results will vary from patient to patient, depending on age, skin type, and more. Noticeable initial results may take anywhere from 2-12 weeks to appear. Your provider may recommend several treatment sessions (if this is your first time) to achieve your desired results. One to two treatments yearly after your initial few sessions are also generally recommended for best results.
How much does the Vampire Facial?
The Vampire Faacial costs $399 per session, or $975 if purchased in a package of three. The procedure will take approximately one hour.
