Numbing Options For Lip Filler
Nurse Ashley is here to drop the details on numbing options for lip filler.
The interest in lip filler has grown exponentially over the past couple of years and is one of the most popular noninvasive treatments. Many younger patients want to add more fullness while most older patients want to correct the volume loss that occurs over time. The most common question that I always get asked from all my patients is, “Does it hurt to get lip filler?”
If you're considering lip filler in Austin, TX, it's important to work with a licensed and experienced professional to ensure optimal results.
Here’s what I would tell you lips are spicy! Fortunately for you, there are a couple of anesthetic methods we can perform to facilitate the experience of filler injections for both the patient and the provider.
1. Lidocaine included in the filler: lidocaine is mixed in the hyaluronic acid-based filler. However, this does not work instantly as the needle is inserted. It can take several minutes to take effect.
2. Topical anesthetic cream: this is applied to the area being treated and takes approximately 20 minutes to take effect. This minimizes the discomfort of the injection but does not completely remove all discomfort. This method wears off quite quickly after treatment.
3. Dental block: this is a local anesthetic that involves needles being used to administer lidocaine to the specific nerve regions. This is two injection pokes on each side of the nares and takes effect almost immediately. The patient will have little to no pain from the procedure and the numbness will approximately last 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Pain tolerance varies from patient to patient and for this reason anesthesia needs to be individualized. A consultation with our advanced nurse injectors is appropriate to provide the best anesthetic methods for you. These simple methods or a combination of these methods are well tolerated by patients and provide adequate anesthesia for the injection of lip filler.
