Vampire Facial: All about microneedling with PRP

You may have heard of the Dracula Facial or even seen the infamous pictures of Kim Kardashian getting a bloody facial treatment in Austin. This treatment is not as scary as it may sound and includes a ton of unbelievable benefits for your skin to give you a youthful glow.

This is an easy breakdown of the entire treatment including how it works, its benefits, and what to expect!

What is Microneedling with PRP?

Microneedling is a treatment that involves the use of quickly pulsating tiny needles that produce micro-traumas in the skin. These micro-traumas stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. Microneedling is further complimented by using PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) on the surface of the skin. The PRP is gathered from drawing a small amount of your own blood, from which the plasma is separated to concentrate healing properties.

What are some of the benefits?

  • Improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduces acne scars

  • Evens skin tone

  • Reduces the appearance of large pores

  • Gives the skin a fresh glow

  • Gives the skin a firmer and smoother texture

  • Helps lighten sunspots

  • Reduces broken capillaries and spider veins

How does it work?

PRP is a concentrated blend of plasma cells and specific growth factors. In conjunction with microneedling, the treated area of skin can rejuvenate for a firmer, more youthful texture and suppleness.

WHAT TO EXPECT

BEFORE - Before your treatment begins, a topical numbing cream is applied to the entire face to ensure comfort. While you are numbing, we will perform a blood draw to obtain the PRP. We will then cleanse the face and prepare the skin for treatment. The appropriate depth for the microneedling will then be selected, based on your skin type and condition.

DURING - Hyaluronic acid serum and PRP will be applied to the treatment area and the microneedling will begin. Our patients report that the treatment is not uncomfortable, with a sensation like light sandpaper moving across your skin. After the entire face has been treated, we will cleanse the skin with water and apply another layer of hyaluronic acid serum and PRP.

AFTER - After your treatment, you may have redness similar to a sunburn which will continue to improve over the next few days and weeks. As your body’s natural collagen production is now stimulated, you should see the texture and quality of your skin continue to improve for up to six months. Recovery time is about one to three days depending on how aggressive the treatment is.

During the treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to ensure comfort, and the face is cleansed and prepared for treatment. Schedule a consultation with us to learn more about this innovative skin rejuvenation treatment.
